Building a Legacy

I am extremely lucky to have a "handy" husband. OK so he more than handy, he is a true craftsman. He learned about woodworking from his father and grandfather, then went to college to become a Technology teacher. Now he teaches 8th graders and college students how to make things. What the kids come out with is just amazing. From the big projects like, tables, wall shelves, rocking chairs, magazine racks, Adirondack chairs, a wooden surfboard, even a bed to small projects like jewelry boxes, wooden clocks, cutting boards, he makes sure that each kid can be proud of what they made. Now that I am done bragging about my husband, (OK not totally done) something that was really important to him was being able to design and build a cradle for the baby. I must say, it came out beautiful! he also built the changing table/dresser, and his father built a crib. Words can not express how special it is to have a legacy and heirloom to pass down to our children one day. Now... pictures.

Showered with Love!

My baby shower was in February, and I was excited for a couple reasons:

1. It was at Chimney Rock, my favorite place to eat!

2. The 10th storm of the season (it may not have been number 10, but we all lost count this winter) turned out to be mostly rain, so it didn't hamper anyone's travel plans.

3. I was going to get to see my Aunts and Cousins who I missed seeing at Thanksgiving. They drove in from Vermont and North Carolina, and we had a fantastic time getting our nails done before the shower.

4. I was finally going to be able to stop panicking about not having anything ready for the baby. (I promptly began panicking about what I was supposed to do with all of this baby stuff!)

My Aunt Karen (who is like Martha Stewart but even better) brought all of the decor for the forest themed shower.

There were the birds nest favors (with little soap eggs)

The center pieces with some welcome greenery in this winter world!

Handmade signs welcoming baby

The Birds Nest cupcakes

We received lots of great gifts including a stroller!

Custom Cloth Diapers with Nick's motto... Wood is Good
Then my favorite, a family tree. What you can't see in this photo is that each leaf has the thumbprint and name of a family member. So creative it should be in a magazine! Thanks Aunt Karen (told you she was Martha Stewart!)

For more photos, you can visit my friend Mary's webpage, she took all of the pictures for me! I look horrible in half of them... mainly because I am always talking, not because of Mary :)
